BenortH2, pioneer project in green hydrogen, energy without waste
BenortH2, proyecto pionero en hidrógeno verde, la energía sin residuos
Green hydrogen is a fuel that does not generate contaminating emissions. It is safe to transport and store, and can be used in industry, transport, generation and residential consumption.
Green hydrogen is generated via electrolysis, a technology that separates the two components of water: H2 and O. The energy required for this hydrogen-generating process is obtained from renewable sources such as solar or wind power.
THE GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT IN BISCAY: A PIONEER IN ADAPTING TRADITIONAL ENERGY FACILITIES TO ACHIEVE DECARBONIZATION OF THE SECTOR
The BenortH2 green hydrogen plant is the first plant of its kind in the Basque Country and in Spain. Green hydrogen generation is achieved by taking advantage of the infrastructures of a conventional plant and Spain’s national gas pipeline network.
Public and private transport
Electricity generation free from CO2 on the CCGT
Gas for industrial and domestic consumption
Fuel cell-based renewable electricity generation
THE USE OF GREEN HYDROGEN IS KEY TO DECARBONIZATION
Green hydrogen is a necessary path for reaching the goals set out in the 2015 Paris Agreement. Since it uses clean energy for its production, this fuel will contribute to reducing contaminating gas emissions.
