BenortH2 IS SPAIN’S FIRST GREEN HYDROGEN PLANT

separador

The BenortH2 plant in Bizkaia is pioneering because it reuses and adapts existing energy installations.

Apart from making use of the infrastructures of the combined cycle power plant in Amorebieta, it will also take advantage of Nortegas’s existing gas distribution network.

This will result in very significant cost reductions when it comes to generating hydrogen and taking it to market. Moreover, the plant can be further optimized over time to achieve highly competitive values.

STRATEGIC LOCATION

Distribution of green hydrogen using the existing gas pipeline network. Quick access to Europe via road and sea for export thanks to excellent motorway links and the close proximity of the Port of Bilbao.

DIGITAL TWINNING

The plant is completely digitalized, allowing the control, management and theoretical application of improvements and modifications before they are applied in practice. This digital twinning system makes it possible to scale and replicate the plant in other areas in record time.

APPLICATIONS OF BenortH2 GREEN HYDROGEN

separador
The green hydrogen generated at BenortH2 can be used for fuel for public/private transport, industry and home consumption through hydrogen injection into the existing gas distribution network. It will also contribute to generating green electricity for businesses and homes, since part of the green hydrogen produced will be used on the combined cycle plant itself and as a material in syngas production. Synthetic gas has the same characteristics as conventional gas, but its use permits reductions in net CO2 emissions of 100%.

WHAT APPLICATIONS WILL THE GREEN HYDROGEN PRODUCED ATBenortH2 HAVE?

Injection into the Nortegas natural gas pipeline network for industrial and residential consumption.

Injection into the Amorebieta CCGT for electricity generation, reducing CO2 emissions.

Syngas production, turning CO2 into methane gas for injection into the CCGT.

Fuel cell-based clean electricity generation.

Storage for distribution via road and sea for industrial uses and transport.

Creation of a hydrogen generator for hydrogen refuelling of public and private vehicle fleets.

Green hydrogen production

Growing demand for green hydrogen will allow the project to be upscaled.

With the production envisaged for this phase, a reduction of 12,000 t/year greenhouse gases is calculated, helping to improve the environment.
